Tennis Racket

Introduction

For my personal project I had decided to use my passion as inspiration for my project. I play tennis almost everyday and while doing this relived how much plastic goes to waste. To be able to understand what my product is there is something you should know about tennis rackets and strings. After a while your string breaks! This string is mainly made out of plastic, which is unfortunate. This means that every time someone breaks their string in the racket they through away that plastic, which causes more pollution and a problem for the environment.

My task was to create a solution for this problem. In tennis there are also these plastic rubbery "things" called dampeners(see image right) that are put in between the strings of your racket in order to decrease(dampen) the vibration that goes into your arm. These dampeners are also used often amongst players. Thus I came to my plan, to recycle the broken tennis strings used in rackets and make a dampener. This project would be a 2 in 1, helping the environment by recycling the plastic but also helping the shops that sell these dampeners.

Why is my project challenging?

The project is challenging, because after doing some research i found out that nobody has really found a real solution for this problem. Most tennis shops that string rackets directly trash the strings.

This is because of a couple of reasons; extra work for the shops,(they already knowing that they have a functioning system), not gaining much from the proces. These are only some common reasons why the shops are not looking for a solution. The shops don't have the necessity to find a different solution. Presenting them a way of using their strings would be necessary. This is why finding a productive solution for the plastic strings and creating a prototype will be challenging.
